Assistant Vegetable Farmer 

We are seeking a full time, year round farmer to assist the Farm Manager in the running of a small scale vegetable and berry operation. We have a 1/4 acre non-certified, organic vegetable plot, 2 acres of mixed berries, and a small orchard. We have an established farm that has been running for nearly a decade in Pine Plains, NY. Now private, the farm supplies vegetables to one family and a small scale office CSA during peak season. We have a 40’ x 60’ greenhouse with raised beds, 2 chicken coops, a commercial grade kitchen, and 2 walk in coolers. Our total garden space is 5-6 acres with 8’ perimeter deer fencing and immaculate mountain views. Additionally we have a fully outfitted maple sugar shack and honey bees.

The vegetable farmer will be responsible for assisting in all garden and vegetable related duties, chicken care, and mowing and maintaining green spaces around the garden. Duties include but are not limited to:

-Seeding and propagating plants in the greenhouse

-Garden bed prep

-Transplanting seedlings

-Field plant care (irrigating, weeding, pruning, trellising, pest management etc)

-Harvesting, washing and packing veg and berries

-Maintaining and pruning berry bushes and fruit trees  

-Chicken care and egg washing

-Filling in as CSA delivery driver to Manhattan as needed 

-Keeping all farm areas neat, clean and organized 

The ideal candidate for this position would have 3-5 years experience working on a small scale vegetable farm using regenerative and organic farming practices. Experience working with chickens and berries is a plus. Some weekend hours are required. This candidate should be self-driven, able to work as part of a team as well as independently. 

Offer for this position is $56,000-60,000/yr.
