Job description

The Agriculture Development Division of the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets seeks a highly motivated individual to support Vermont's agricultural, forestry and food businesses. This position is a key part of the marketing team and will lead the Division's price discovery and reporting programs, which cover farmers markets, beef, organic dairy, and maple. This position will also provide Division-wide support around efforts to enhance quantitative storytelling and impact reporting.

 

This position will play a major role in the collection, analysis and visualization of data related to the effectiveness and impact of the Agricultural Development Division and its component programs. The ideal candidate will possess experience and skills related to building and managing data sets, designing data flows, conducting statistical analysis, and visualizing data in both static and dynamic formats. The ability to build efficiency and connections across existing data sets, as well as design integrated systems for capturing new data, are priorities for this role.

 

This position will also manage several price discovery and reporting programs. The goal of these programs is to capture and report on real-time pricing for select, locally produced, agricultural products. This position will be responsible for all aspects of these programs, including recruiting producers, soliciting price data, tracking and reporting data, and compensating participants through stipend payments. This position will work in partnership with the US Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service in expanding the availability of pricing data. 

 

As part of the marketing team, this position will have the opportunity to support marketing events and campaigns and will work as a key member of the team. This position will be an important partner in identifying needs and opportunities and helping execute the marketing team's mission and goals.  

Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following areas will be helpful in this role

Excel

  • Power BI
  • R, SPSS, or other statistical analysis software
  • Web editing 
  • ArcGIS or similar mapping software

This position is based in Montpelier, VT. Telework options are available to employees in the Agricultural Development Division.  While this position is Limited Service, it is expected, but not guaranteed to be funded past it's current date of September of 2024, through at least 2026.
