Night Moves is a bakery driven by our philosophy of utilizing local, sustainable, stone-milled grain to create delicious, nourishing food for our community.  

We aim to bake your daily bread - a daily bread made from healthy grains, grown by farmers who work to steward the soil.  A daily bread made on a human scale, critically considering the systems that go into its production.  A daily bread reflecting the global traditions of fermentation and intuition that have been handed down for generations.  
 

After 8 years in business, we are excited to be one year into our new seaside home this summer at 695 Broadway in South Portland, on the Fore River side of the Casco Bay Bridge.  We offer expanded bakery retail, coffee, pizza, outdoor seating and saltwater views in the Knightville community. 

Pizza Baker 

We are seeking a seasonal pizza baker to join our team 1-2 days per week mid-June to early September.  Our Friday pizza nights have been a lot of fun, and we're planning to add Saturdays for the summer. 
 

Daily responsibilities include:

Prepping pizza toppings: meats, cheese, seasonal produce
Milling flour
Stretching dough
Baking pizzas and managing oven timing
Baking 50-150 pizzas per night as part of a 2-baker team, working alongside 2 FOH staff 
Ensuring consistency and high quality product  
Frequent cleaning of work areas & dishwashing as part of bake process

Hours:

Workdays are generally 8 hours per day, including break time, 1pm-9pm.  Subject to some fluctuation depending on seasonality. 

Compensation: 

$18/hour plus shared tips (avg $22-24/hr).  Guaranteed $21/hour. 

1 hour PTO per 40 hours worked, complimentary bread and treats, access to bulk buying membership.  


Qualifications: 

We are a very small but mighty team.  Kindness, flexibility, a cooperative attitude and thorough work ethic are most vital to this position.   

A successful candidate will have: 
 

- Prior experience in a food service, agricultural, or health service environment
 

- Love for the bakery flow – the long dance, the heat, the sensory pleasures, the physicality, the generosity, the repetition that teaches.
 

- Ability to complete physical work.  We lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs, work on our feet, and clean as we go.  
 

- A learning mindset, eager to find the opportunity in a mistake. 

- Strong organizational skills, yet flexibility with the fluctuations baking inevitably provides. 
 

- A kind and positive attitude. 
 

- Clear communication skills.
 

- Ability to work independently as well as a part of a collaborative team.  Our weekly schedule will provide both. 
 

- A service work ethic, looking for opportunities to contribute to daily tasks.
