Apple Acres Farm: (Post Updated March 1st!) is a 10 acre pick-your-own orchard with a farm store and cafe. We pick apples to press into cider, and for wholesale markets, and we are currently building a new dining room. We also host weddings. We are nestled in the foothills of the white mountains, overlooking the Saco River valley. We are seeking apprentices available from May 15th-November 15th (OR part of that time) to assist in the farming, store & cafe, and business work. Compensation includes housing, a stipend, and a CSA share. We also take an entire month off from farming during the summer to run the Ossipee Valley Music Festival (google it!) which is a 5,000 attendee camping festival with local food and beer, workshops, dances and more. Internship description Apprentices will work from May-November 6 days a week. One day a month will additionally be reserved for apprentices to work on an independent research project of their choosing. May-June activities will include planting, watering, mowing, carpentry, pest management, and composting. July will be solely devoted to running the Ossipee Valley Music Festival (www.ossipeevalley.com) which is a huge part of our lives--you will build stages, cook food for the attendees at the string camp (about 100 students) pour beer in the beer tent, problem solve, and more. You will also help us host a few weddings at the farm. August-November you will work in the farm store and grading apples, making doughnuts and sandwiches, running a cash register, managing wholesale accounts and business paperwork, making signs, doing social media blasts, doing store inventory, and occasionally picking apples, delivering apples, delivering cider, and frankly lots of cleaning and organizing. We will show you basically everything about how our farm works, and how we are struggle to make it financially viable as well as convert it to organic. We work really hard, seven days a week. You will work six days a week, eight hours a day. You will receive a stipend, a CSA share, and an apartment, and funds to attend MOFGA workshops and events. We are located about 1 hour away from Portland or North Conway (Mount Washington) in either direction. A bike is definitely recommended, you can borrow our kayaks anytime, we often take time in the summer to go sea kayaking or river kayaking. We also take a small break for about 8 days between the festival in July and the beginning of the apple season in August. We also offer field trips for kids and you will be involved in those. There is a lot that goes on here, but the main thing to know is that we work really hard, and try to have fun too! This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in faming, independent business management, or the food system in general! We are also willing to accept applicants who can only stay for part of the time. Compensation this position is : stipend / non-monetary compensation
