  • Location Swansea, MA
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description Dream Blossom Farm is a family-run specialty cut flower agricultural center in Swansea, MA, about 15 miles outside Providence, RI. Our fields burst with vivid colors reflecting all seasons of the year. From our hardy peonies in the spring to our vast range of dahlias in all colors and sizes in the summer and numerous other specialty crops in between, we are dedicated to growing some of New England's most diverse and exotic plants every day. We engage a diverse and expanding market that includes event planners, florists and floral designers. Job description

Dream Blossom Farm seeks talented new members to join our specialty outdoor field crew: seed-sowing, transplanting, harvesting, bed prepping, support netting, weeding, bucket cleaning, sorting, market prep and more. This position is ideal for school athletes seeking to stay in shape during the peak season at our farm and for those interested in intensive farming and ornamental plant production.

Because our operation is new, preference will be given to applicants with at least two years of growing experience on a farm. In a few words, explain why joining our team would be a satisfying experience for you.

One position is available for March 2017. All other positions available mid/late April 2017.

Compensation starts at $11 per hour.

The position has six hour workdays. During the peak season between June - September, harvesting starts at 7:00 AM. Positions are available at two days a week minimum to six days a week maximum.

Some of the responsibilities will include sowing seeds in plug trays for future transplanting, planting mature plugs outdoors, harvesting indoors during the spring and outdoors from the summer through fall, preparing field beds for the spring and summer planting, installing support netting, spotting and controlling weeds in a timely fashion, preparing buckets for harvest, orderly sorting all flowers, preparing flowers for sale and more.

Being part of the specialty outdoor field crew involves working directly and independently with owners, coworkers and others. Our work provides you with invaluable experience covering the fundamentals of flower farming. Some days will have many different tasks while others are more monotonous, so providing quality cut flowers and keeping our clientele satisfied are the keys to success.

Candidates for the position should meet the following criteria:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Cover letter and résumé. Letter(s) of recommendation, a plus
  • Have a familiarity with using various types of hand tools
  • Maintain a culture of professionalism
  • Be trustworthy, responsible, self-motivated, inquisitive, observant and energetic
  • Prepare to work under conditions exposed to nature and dirt
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Be able to work alone and with teams under minimal supervision
  • Be able to communicate effectively in speaking and writing
  • Be able to take directions
  • Have strong interpersonal skills interacting with owner, coworkers and others
  • A passion for flower farming preferred
  • Two-to-five+ years experience in farms or grounds maintenance preferred, but not a must
