Company description Allium Market is a brand new Specialty Foods Market and Cafe in Brookline's bustling Coolidge Corner district. Allium intends to bring local, national, and international specialty items to the diverse and discerning customer base in Brookline, while providing a fun, funky place for passionate food lovers to work and learn. Allium will have three main components:

Dry Goods Retail: Specializing in a worldly selection of olive oils, vinegars, mustards, preserves, spices, honeys, beans, grains, pastas, sauces, preserved foods and more.

Cheese Counter: Brookline's first full service cut-to order cheese shop! A meticulously procured selection of New England, American, and International cheeses and charcuterie that are exciting and innovative. The selection will constantly be changing based on availability, and will be managed by our head Cheesemonger whose passion for both fantastic cheese and friendly, welcoming customer service will make Allium a top cheese destination in the Boston area. 

Cafe: A hip yet comfortable cafe that serves made to order coffee drinks, a daily selection of fresh baked pastries, salads, toasts, and rotating daily specials. The cafe is a casual spot with fresh, down to earth food featuring all of our favorite products. The cafe is headed up by our Executive Pastry Chef who brings years of experience and a passion for flavors to our hungry Brookline customers. With emphasis on high quality ingredients and nothing but the best flavors our cafe is sure to become a staple in this foodie community. Job Description:
The Head Cheesemonger will be the driving force behind the cheese collection at Allium Market. They will be involved in all creative and logistical aspects of designing and setting up a brand new cheese department from choosing their favorite display cases and cheese paper, to helping design the layout of the whole cheese department. The Head Cheesemonger will be the main decision maker when it comes to the cheese department and will be responsible for building, curating, and maintaining the collection. The Head Cheesemonger will be able to structure the department as they see fit based on Alliums staffing needs and will be part of interviewing and hiring other cheesemongers and cheese department staff. There will be ample opportunities for the Head Cheesemonger to travel to cheese festivals, events and competitions, and they will be encouraged to bring their experiences back to Allium to share with our employees, improve and advance the cheese department, and improve the market as a whole. 

Desired Experience:
*none of these are deal breakers- but please tell us if you have any of these things covered!
- 2 years minimum working in a cheese department or cheese industry
- experience in a leadership role (does not have to be in cheese)
- experience in buying and inventory
- experience working with distributers/producers
- 2 years general customer service in retail, food service, specialty department or otherwise
- passion for food that translates into a desire to share great food experiences with others
- ability to work well with others and be part of a team
- ability to work on your feet and lift up to 50lbs occasionally

*Start Date Note: Allium is in the process of location selection/build out now. We plan on opening in the summer of 2017. Though the store will not be open for several months, there will be plenty of work to do in preparing a brand new specialty market and cheese department. Key leadership employees like the Head Cheesemonger will start during the buildout process, as they will be an integral part of designing the department, choosing equipment, organizing starting inventory, and hiring and training other staff well before we open. Start date is therefore flexible and will revolve around the needs of the right person for the job.
