Sprouts is a non-profit that teaches kids from all socioeconomic backgrounds what REAL food is all about. We do this through hands-on cooking with REAL chefs from hotshot restaurants in San Francisco, New York and Paris! With the support of Jamie Oliver and the endorsement of Alice Waters on our advisory board, we fulfill our mission through 5 main programs:

• Free Classes at Girls Inc for in-need young girls

• After School Cooking Classes for Bay Area students from all backgrounds

• Classes and Camps on weekends and school breaks for diverse Bay Area youth

• Chef-in-training Internships for at-risk young adults that want to change their lives around through a culinary career

• Classes for children with special needs

We are educating and inspiring youth in the kitchen every day, thanks to the dedication of 16 full and part-time team members, 10 interns, 20+ volunteers, and 100+ local chefs.

As camp counselor, we will help you explore different career options as you delve into the delicious inner core of a culinary non-profit. By the end of the summer, you will have developed new cooking skills, eaten a ton of delicious bites from hotshot restaurants, and made new friends with a whole slew of local chefs and restaurants! Join us for a slammin’ summer, and help us in our mission to teach kids about cooking and nutrition to lead healthier lives!

Your Role:

As a Camp Counselor, you will be working hands-on with a group of 17 elementary aged kids, alongside your team of counselors and camp staff. You will have the opportunity to work right inside real restaurants with real chefs, visit local farms and markets, and get a taste of the culinary scene here in the Bay Area. Which also means that you will be first in line for all of the delicious food that we cook up with our chef friends! The Summer Camp Counselors will have plenty of opportunities to show leadership and facilitate the flow of each day: from talking to parents to helping teach a class or two!

Whether your interests are in business, cooking, community impact, nutrition, leadership, or youth .. we will develop tasks and roles for you that will highlight that. Your Team:

In this role you will be working with our growing team of 15 full and part-time team members, several interns, and over 25 volunteers. You'll also be working very closely with our Summer Camp staff of 15 seasonal camp managers, operations interns, marketing interns, and counselors.

Your Work Space and Hours:

You will not be working in a typical office environment for your summer, you will be working behind the scenes are real restaurants, farms and markets!

General camp hours: Monday through Friday 9 to 5

Sprouts' office and inventory space in located in Downtown Oakland

Skills and Requirements:

Strong organizational skills, high aptitude, strong interpersonal skills, interest in community, children, driver's license, chefs, nutrition, and cooking. Leadership skills. Culinary skills and comfort in the kitchen. Comfort and excitement for working with kids.

Commitments and Contract Period:

• Full-time
• 3 Month Commitment (end of May through August)

Compensation and Benefits:

You will gain valuable experience working with a successful nonprofit, all while serving the community with your contribution to Sprouts.

This position is paid (wahooo!):

• $1,300 for full Summer
• $700 for half Summer
