Creative Line Cooks Wanted Nebo Lodge

  • Date Posted April 04, 2017
  • Location North Haven, ME
  • Category Culinary
  • Job type Summer Job
Company description

Nebo Lodge is a critically acclaimed farm-to-table restaurant and inn located on the beautiful island of North Haven, Maine. North Haven island is located 12 miles – a one-hour ferry ride – off Rockland, Maine. North Haven’s year-round population of 350 families, fishermen, teachers, builders and farmers swells to nearly 1000 in the summer months, when the inn’s nine guest rooms are usually full and the restaurant serves around 200 guests each night.

The restaurant’s menu is inspired by the bounty produced on its organic farm, which delivers fresh vegetables, cheeses and meat three days a week. Our commitment to sustainable agriculture and our passion for highlighting each ingredient at its very best come together in delicious, deceptively simple dishes that we are proud to serve to our neighbors, friends and family. The restaurant also serves homemade breakfasts of local eggs and baked goods to overnight guests staying in the inn’s nine guest rooms, as well as weekly family-style suppers in the timber-frame barn at our farm, where we also cater weddings and other special events.

Our staff culture is based on the joy of working hard with a team of good people, respect for others and for the island environment, and a love of good food and sincere hospitality.

Job description

We are looking for several cooks to join our team for the 2017 season. Ideal candidates will share our passion for working with the freshest local produce, and will relish the challenge of collaborating with the Head Cook on a changing menu inspired by these ingredients. We are more interested in your passion for cooking and a strong work ethic than in a long resume of experience. Our cooks work five 12-hour shifts each week, with two days off to explore the island and midcoast Maine. They must have the fortitude to handle long hours while retaining a positive attitude, and they must be totally dependable as our staff structure and season do not allow for any subs. While we believe that hierarchy is a necessary part of any workplace, we are looking for independent, motivated contributors who take pride of ownership in every task they complete, be it preparing our signature lobster dish or cleaning your station at the end of the night.

This position is responsible for all aspects of food preparation up to and including final presentation for delivery to guests. Responsibilities will include food preparation tasks as assigned by the Head Chef, including mise en place for each station on the line, protein seasoning, baking and sauce preparation; cleaning work area and kitchen during and at the end of shift; and assisting with receiving deliveries to the kitchen. Must be able to take direction and follow recipes.

If you are passionate about making delicious food using the freshest seasonal ingredients, collaborating with a team of like-minded people, and enjoy a breathtaking natural setting, we encourage you to apply. Our remote location requires that you live on premises. Housing and meals are provided at no charge.

Must be available to work from June 15th through October 15th, 2017.

Compensation this position is : hourly, $15/hr + Work visa This employer is willing to sponsor a work visa for international applicants Application instructions
