Hearty Eats is a plant based restaurant specializing in serving up fast, affordable and delicious meals made form scratch with locally sourced produce all year round. We are in our third year of operation and have been owner managed since inception. We have succeeded in streamlining our processes, developing documentation, providing a high quality consistent experience for customers, and building up a great team. With this, has come great success and rapid growth and we are now looking to find the right person who can fill the role of Kitchen Manager on our team. 

Job Description

We are looking to add a leader to our team. Someone who takes a thoughtful approach to food, enjoys working in a fast paced environment, has a warm, caring and positive attitude, is thorough with an eye for detail and works well in a team setting.

Our Ideal Candidate has:

  • 2-3 years restaurant management experience
  • Serve Safe certificate
  • A positive attitude that drives hospitality, effective communication and teamwork
  • An aptitude for learning, coaching and driving excellence
  • Ability to effectively anticipate and problem solve
  • Ability to understand and properly execute recipes consistently
  • A team mindset that motivates others to sustain exceptional levels of performance
  • Basic computer knowledge including: email, excel, word and internet
  • Strengths in: being organized, detail orientated and following through
  • An understanding and accountability of financial aspects of business operations
  • Has a forward thinking mentality, is able to stay a few steps ahead
  • Flexible availability
  • Physical abilities that include: standing for long periods, lifting 50 lbs., tolerance of extreme temperatures
  • An appreciation for how much our food choices affect our mental and physical state, and the impact food production has on the planet.
  • Experience or interest in a plant based diet would be a bonus!

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing functions on our Opening and Closing checklists and shift duties
  • Train, lead and develop our team to achieve excellence in service on the line, product preparation and efficiency
  • Scheduling, staff documentation/annual reviews, employee incident follow up
  • Ensuring the kitchen is properly cleaned, and food safety & sanitation practices are followed
  • Understanding and utilizing appropriate rotation, portioning, storage and ordering techniques
  • Overseeing proper pars, ensuring product availability, freshness and consistency
  • Upholding product standards and presentation
  • Assessing and adapting current practices to perform a task better, faster or more efficiently
  • Accountable for kitchen financial performance: labor, food costs, waste tracking
  • Produce purchasing from local farms with an ability to understand and manage seasonal availability and impact on menu
  • Properly maintaining and operating basic kitchen equipment
  • Equipment management/coordination of repair and maintenance
  • Maintaining appropriate staffing and on going development of kitchen staff
